Service & Maintenance

How often will my vehicle need to be serviced?

Depending on what van you purchase, there will be varying manufacturer servicing guidelines that will suggest how often you should routinely service your van. A general rule of thumb is that you should get your vehicle serviced once a year, however an additional service may be required depending on the accumulated mileage and the age of the van.

Tyres

In the UK, the legal tread depth limit is 1.6mm for both cars and vans, however you should look to replace your tyres if you notice any uneven wear, change in pressure and general damage. This is to ensure optimum safety whilst on the road and to keep your vehicle performing and handling at its best. Tyre degradation can vary depending on road conditions, personal driving habits, and vehicle alignment/camber.

Tyre punctures can oppose a serious problem to drivers, which can contribute you increased downtime of the vehicle. Depending on the type of puncture and the root cause, this will affect the severity of the puncture and therefore the vehicles efficiency.

Slow punctures can occur without the driver’s knowledge, resulting in a loss of inflation over a longer period of time. Wheel damage such as tire bead damage (where the bead meets the rim), valve stem damage (the mechanism in which tyres are inflated by), and general punctures whereby a sharp object is bedded within the tyre are the most common causes of a slow-puncture.

Servicing Electric Vehicles

Electric van servicing and maintenance schedules differ significantly from fuel-powered vans due to their distinct motor components. EV’s generally have fewer moving parts compared to internal combustion engines. However, specialised knowledge and training is required to handle their unique elements such as batteries, electric motors, and charging systems.

The type of service for an electric van predominantly focuses on battery health, cooling systems, and electrical components. Battery maintenance is pivotal to the longevity of an electrical vehicle. Checks will include the managing of charging behaviours, degradation, and the correct functioning of cooling systems.

Typically, electric vans require less frequent servicing due to fewer parts prone to wear and tear. However, battery health checks and software updates may need more regular attention to ensure the vehicle is operating at an optimal performance. Service schedules may vary based on mileage and manufacturer recommendations, often leading to longer intervals between service appointments compared to fuel-powered vans.

Understanding these nuanced differences and adhering to manufacturer-recommended maintenance guidelines are critical for ensuring the efficiency and reliability of these vans in the long run.

Benefits of a Service & Maintenance Plan

Cost Savings: A maintenance plan reduces the risk of major breakdowns and allows for better budget forecasting for repairs. With regular servicing, you can anticipate and plan for maintenance costs, avoiding unexpected financial hits.

Increased Longevity & Efficiency: Regular van servicing maintains its components, ensuring longevity and optimal performance. This upkeep includes regular oil changes, filter replacements, and tuning for efficient operation, fuel optimisation, and reduced emissions.

Enhanced Safety and Reduced Downtime: Routine maintenance checks crucial safety features such as brakes, tyres, and suspension, minimising the risk of accidents and unexpected breakdowns, and therefore reducing off-road time for repairs.

Manufacturer Compliance and Enhanced Resale Value: Adhering to recommended service intervals keeps your van within warranty guidelines and demonstrates good maintenance, potentially increasing its resale value.

Tailored Support and Peace of Mind: Our service and maintenance plan includes a 24/7 breakdown and driver helpline for around-the-clock support. Why do you need a service & maintenance package?

Investing in a service and maintenance package for a new commercial van is a smart decision. It helps in identifying potential issues before they become expensive problems, ensuring cost-efficiency.

Regular maintenance reduces the risk of unexpected breakdowns, allowing the van to spend more time on the road than in a repair centre. This ultimately results in increased productivity and profitability for your business, as the van remains operational for longer.

Routine servicing not only maintains the vehicle’s performance but also extends its lifespan. Therefore, a service and maintenance package for your commercial van is not just about immediate cost savings. It's about financing the sustained efficiency, reliability, and durability of your vehicle, safeguarding its value over time.

"First class service, I must mention Adrian & Ash on an excellent deal & swift turn around under the short notice I had to buying a new van. Slight delay in the delivery of the van from manufacturers end but Adrian agreed to cover the cost of a hire van until my new van was delivered which allowed me to continue working. its the first time i've purchased a van without physically entering a dealership and i wouldn't hesitate to do it again."
