Dropside: Citroen E-Relay vs Peugeot e-Boxer

With an emphasis on the environment and our carbon emissions ever-growing, we are focused on providing brilliant electric alternatives to your favourite vehicles. Both Citroen combustion vans and Peugeot e-boxers have developed a more eco-friendly version of both of their vehicles. Between the Citroen E-Relay and the Peugeot e-Boxer, contributing to emissions is no longer something to worry about!

For van drivers across the country, making long journeys or short stopping and starting in the city, you want to ensure that your van is reliable and dependable. Both of these vehicles have a range of great features to offer and advantages to both of them that could make them the perfect choice for you. Whether your priorities are comfort, or if it’s a dropside you’re looking for, the Citroen E-Relay and the Peugeot e-Boxer both have competitive advantages that set them apart.

Engines and Spec

Unlike the smaller, 35kWh battery option in the Citroen e-Relay range, the e-Relay Dropside has a 74kWh battery, giving it an impressive 154 miles of range per full charge. This is slightly dependent on weather conditions and other external factors such as the load and driving habits.

In comparison, the Peugeot operates on a fully electric engine, with the smaller van ranging to 37kWh and the larger van having a 75kWh battery. These both cover approximately 73 to 154 miles of range on a full charge, similar to the Citroen e-Relay.

In terms of charging from empty to a full charge, you will need to allow 12 hours for the Peugeot. Compatible with a 7.4kW wall charger, this van will charge faster if you don’t run it all the way to empty. Most people have not encountered any charging issues with the Peugeot e-Boxer.

Interior

Space and storage are definitely a bonus in the Citroen e-Relay, with three seats and an abundance of legroom. Not to mention the storage nooks and facilities on the passenger’s side. Therefore, loading space in the Citroen also gives a lot to work with. In the dropside body, we have an internal length of 3,095 mm and width of 2,026 mm. The payload is a hefty 1.4 tonnes and the platform has a convenient 15 mm thick non-slip deck. This is durable when it comes to supporting cargo and keeping it secure.

The Peugeot, however, is a comfortable van, however, in comparison to other vans, it may appear to be lacking in space. It does make up for the lack of space with various features designed to make your drive a nice and smooth experience. The Peugeot e-Boxer has button features for the engine, rather than a gear stick. The rearview mirror also displays useful information such as battery percentage and the driving mode of the van. Loading space in the Peugeot comes in three different lengths to support your loading needs. There is a standard height of 2,522 mm and the largest option is 4,070 mm in length compared to the smallest, 3,210 mm.

The Verdict

If you’re looking for a reliable van, and constantly find yourself in the standstill traffic of urban areas, then the Citroen e-Relay is just the vehicle for you. It possesses a great driving range and supports cargo with a high-quality dropside. Not only this, but the Citroen has good storage and space for heavier loads. It creates no emissions with its fully electric engine and is a great option for those who need to travel those longer distances.

On the other hand, the thing that may let the Citroen down are its less modern interior. Other vans have a more current interior layout than the Citroen e-Relayer. The driving range will also be dependent on the payloads, heavier payloads will limit the driving range. The final thing that may let down the Citroen is the redundant instrument cluster. Vital information such as battery percentages are shown in the rearview mirror, which may be a hindrance to the driver.

Similarly, the Peugeot has a fully electric engine too, making it emission-free also. It provides a smooth and quiet drive, which many drivers will value. Not to mention, it’s much cheaper to run than its diesel counterpart.

That being said, its diesel counterpart has a higher payload capacity in comparison. However, they both have the same amount of loading space. Another disadvantage to the Peugeot e-Boxer is that its modern interior may look the part, but it may not provide enough space or comfort in comparison to other vans.
