Iveco Daily Dropside Review

The Iveco Daily Dropside at a glance

What’s that coming over the hill? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the Iveco Daily Dropside. While it’s no Clark Kent, this van certainly boasts superpowers of its own, making it a perfect choice for roofers and tradespeople everywhere.

Since it first hit the roads almost 50 years ago, the Iveco Daily has established itself as one of the best-selling vans in the world. With an impressive design, mammoth dropside payload and an abundance of comfort and safety features, it’s no wonder this van is so popular among tradespeople.

If you’re looking to upgrade your commercial vehicle, we’re here to help. Read on to discover what makes the Iveco Daily so great, and why it is undeniably, a roofer’s best friend.

Engines and Spec

We thought we’d jump straight in and take a look at the Iveco Daily Dropside’s engine and specifications. This is undoubtedly a capable van and, when we discuss what lies under the bonnet, you’ll see why.

The Iveco Daily Dropside gets its power from a four-cylinder diesel engine. With a choice between 2.3 and 3.0-litre models, there is a model to suit every requirement. If that isn’t enough, Iveco Daily drivers are also faced with the choice between an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox. Whether you’re running a local roofing business, or looking to cruise cross-country with ease, you’ll find a variant that fits.

Interior

So, what makes this van so special? Aside from its hefty engine and reliable drivetrain, the Iveco Daily Dropside boasts an impeccably built chassis and interior space. For roofers and tradespeople of all kinds, this van is ideal.

It’s worth noting that Iveco are known for their alternative manufacturing style, constructing their vans from separate chassis and body combinations. Not only does this equate to an increased payload capacity, but it also means that the Daily Dropside is incredibly durable.

Another incredibly appealing aspect of Iveco’s Daily range is the freedom to choose a model that suits your needs. The dropside model is available with a payload capacity of up to 1700kg. For roofers, the dropside chassis is a must-have, enabling bulky tiles,  sheets of metal and equipment to be transported with ease.

Up front, the Iveco Daily Dropside is available as either a standard or crew cab model. As expected, the single cab option seats three, including the driver. For larger teams and a second row of seats, the crew cab is a great choice. We were particularly impressed with the re-designed seating providing additional comfort and reducing pressure peaks by up to 30%.

Aside from the increased comfort, plentiful storage and ergonomic layout, roofers driving the Daily Dropside will benefit from in-cab smart controls, including dynamic and static settings. This provides drivers with greater suspension control and improved handling. What’s more, Iveco’s built-in AIR-PRO Continuous Damping Control unit also reacts instantly to road disturbances. Combined, this technology can reduce vibrations and counteract surface inconsistencies, keeping materials and equipment safe in the dropside storage space.

Pros

  • Powerful Engine
  • Durable Build
  • Multiple Payload & Cab Options

Cons

  • Limited dealer network
  • Unorthodox chassis design isn’t everyone’s cup of tea

The Verdict

Those on the lookout for a dropside van that can provide payload, comfort and power should look no further than the Iveco Daily. Whether you’re a one-man business or a larger crew, there is a version of this van to suit your needs!

With a choice of engine sizes, drivetrains and cabs, Iveco have certainly covered all bases with this vehicle. For roofers looking to transport tools and materials from job to job, the Daily is up to the task. Dropside chassis access makes for effortless unloading whilst in-cab tech will keep you entertained on the road.

"First class service, I must mention Adrian & Ash on an excellent deal & swift turn around under the short notice I had to buying a new van. Slight delay in the delivery of the van from manufacturers end but Adrian agreed to cover the cost of a hire van until my new van was delivered which allowed me to continue working. its the first time i've purchased a van without physically entering a dealership and i wouldn't hesitate to do it again."
