Luton: Fiat E-Ducato vs Maxus E-Deliver 9

The Luton van features a distinctive box-shaped body that extends over the driver cab and is an excellent choice for delivery drivers, construction workers and tradespeople. With the extra height increase, the Luton van is capable of accommodating those items for which you may need a little more space.

Rooted in a strong history of vehicle manufacturing, Fiat is an Italian global superstar with a strong electric offering, such as the Fiat E-Ducato described in this review. Though Maxus certainly doesn’t have the same household name recognition, this exciting Chinese brand is likely to gain traction in the UK if they continue with the quality of the E Deliver 9 Luton.

Boasting the efficiency the Luton is known for, the Fiat E-Ducato Luton has storage, range, and is considered as the go-to vehicle for tradespeople of all kinds. The Maxus E-Deliver 9 has the range and the payload yet retains a roomy interior, promising extra legroom and passenger comfort.

Engines and Spec

The E Deliver 9 Luton has an eye-catching 219 mile range, which is simply fantastic when sized up to other electric competitors. When you consider that you’re unlikely to cover the full range distance in a single day, and can easily charge overnight or fast charge to 80% in 40 minutes, you know you’re onto a winner with the Maxus.

With an equally impressive payload, the Maxus E Deliver can deliver up to 1290 kg overall.

More information can be found in our original Maxus review, there are additional compartments and storage spaces to stash away belongings, and despite the limited use in inner-city areas due in part to the enhanced-length storage area and length, you’re getting both an excess of secure space as well as a competitive range and payload.

On the other hand, the Fiat E-Ducato Luton is an ideal choice for individuals on the hunt for practicality, reliability and power.  Perfect for short trips in urban environments, you can choose either 47 kWh or 79 kWh batteries with around 122 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. The maximum speed is 60 mph which is less ideal for long trips on motorways as it lacks the speed needed for these bigger roads.

In terms of payload, the E-Ducato blows the Maxus out of the water with an immense 1,885 kg capacity. Combine this with easy loading and unloading via the rear doors and the classic over-cab Luton storage, you have a very attractive choice for drivers who have large loads to carry. More details can be found in our original Fiat E-Ducato review.

Interior

For those who spend plenty of time on the road, using their form of transport as an office on wheels, gadgets and a consideration for comfort will certainly be worthwhile. The E Deliver 9 is a very large van, with an extremely spacious cabin considerate of quality, safety and convenience. Comfort is ensured with an interactive 10 inch touch screen, 8-direction adjustable driver’s seat with armrest, varied driving modes, electrically heated side mirrors, Lane Departure Warning System and High Beam Recognition

Similarly, the Fiat E-Ducato Luton interior boasts an abundance of storage options, with large bins below the centre console, large door pockets and dash-top cubbies. Those looking to go seamlessly from van to mobile office will be pleased to discover that the centre backrest folds down to double as a desk.

Additionally, the E-Ducato has a well designed infotainment system, with a 7.0-inch touchscreen display, smartphone connectivity and satellite navigation included on every model aside from base spec. The E-Ducato’s instrument panel incorporates important information such as battery charge and range and also includes a small ‘Mopar Connect’ screen above the driver’s side dashboard.

The Verdict

The low running costs of the E-Ducato, combined with the amazing payload and choices of battery, body types and lengths make it a very attractive option for those doing shorter routes and navigating urban environments. The Fiat E-Ducato Luton can be purchased here at Van Sales for £409 + VAT.

However if you’re looking for an economical and impressive vehicle,  the Maxus E Deliver 9 is designed to keep the driver comfortable and in control of the vehicle, so a great choice for any one who spends a significant amount of time in the commercial van. The Maxus E Deliver 9 Luton can be purchased here at Vanaways for the price of £369 + VAT.

"First class service, I must mention Adrian & Ash on an excellent deal & swift turn around under the short notice I had to buying a new van. Slight delay in the delivery of the van from manufacturers end but Adrian agreed to cover the cost of a hire van until my new van was delivered which allowed me to continue working. its the first time i've purchased a van without physically entering a dealership and i wouldn't hesitate to do it again."
