MAN eTGE Electric Tipper Review

The MAN eTGE Tipper at a glance

The all-new MAN eTGE Tipper van is an impressive vehicle already making waves in the electric van market.

This brand new tipper van is following in the footsteps of similar models like the Volkswagen Crafter, using some tried and tested successful features of its competitors to entice new customers.

Like the Volkswagen e-Crafter, the eTGE has a battery and motor that sits underneath. This means that it gets a claimed range of up to 99 miles (160km) and a battery that can be charged in just five and a half hours if it is on the most efficient alternating current wall box, while it can take nine hours on a 220V AC socket.

As the MAN eTGE Tipper is designed for commercial customers, it has an optimum top speed of 56mph which means that it is ideal for the urban user and those doing lots of deliveries.

The MAN eTGE isn’t just available as a tipper – it comes in a number of bodies including panel, box, platform and crew, so you can find one to suit your needs.

Like all electric vehicles, the eTGE is slightly more expensive than the diesel-powered TGE, however, it is available for finance lease and contract hire at Vanaways for just £399 + VAT.

To discover more about what the MAN eTGE Tipper has to offer, keep reading for our thoughts on the engines and specs and interior of this brand-new van.

Engines and Spec

The MAN eTGE operates on a fully electric motor, making it an economical and affordable choice.

As we’ve mentioned before, the eTGE has a battery and motor that sits underneath, meaning that it gets a claimed range of up to 99 miles (160km) and a battery that can be charged in just five and a half hours if it is on the most efficient alternating current wall box, while it can take nine hours on a 220V AC socket.

Thanks to the electric engine, the MAN eTGE delivers a quiet and smooth ride, allowing you to carry a variety of loads and equipment in an environmentally friendly, quiet and economical manner.

The electric vehicle has a BHP of 136, making it ideal for carrying heavy loads and is available with a choice of either a 3.5-tonne or 4.25-tonne payload. There will be no actual difference between the two as far as the physical van is concerned, but don’t be surprised if you pay more for the ability to carry more weight.

Interior

The environmental benefits of this electric vehicle don’t just stop at the engine.

The interior of the MAN eTGE has been designed with environmental considerations at the forefront to create a space that is both comfortable and environmentally friendly.

An electric vehicle produces significantly less waste heat compared with a combustion engine, meaning the MAN eTGE uses a highly efficient, purely electric heating and air conditioning system.

In the MAN eTGE, the vehicle lighting, multimedia systems, USB ports and assistance systems also require battery power and therefore achieve maximum energy efficiency. The eTGE also offers you a savings mode that reduces the auxiliary consumer’s energy use.

There is plenty of storage in the eTGE, with optimally positioned, easy-to-use load-lashing rings and longitudinal and cross rails for securing cargo in the load compartment to ensure that everything stays in place.

The vehicle also boasts a rearview camera which sends detailed images to a display in the cockpit to allow you to keep an overview at all times when paring and reversing.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Virtually silent and emission-free

  • Versatile vehicle body options

  • Range of up to 130km

Cons

  • Payload is not as impressive as some other vans

  • More expensive than diesel options

The Verdict

If you’re looking for an environmentally-friendly, practical tipper van, the MAN eTGE Tipper is the perfect choice.

With a number of bodies available to suit your individual needs, the eTGE is ideal for commercial customers carrying large loads or deliveries.

Operating on a fully electric engine with a speedy charging time, this electric vehicle is capable of delivering a smooth and comfortable ride while you carry a variety of loads and equipment.

While like all electric vehicles, the MAN eTGE is on the pricier side, however, it is available for finance lease and contract hire at Vanaways for just £399 + VAT.

"First class service, I must mention Adrian & Ash on an excellent deal & swift turn around under the short notice I had to buying a new van. Slight delay in the delivery of the van from manufacturers end but Adrian agreed to cover the cost of a hire van until my new van was delivered which allowed me to continue working. its the first time i've purchased a van without physically entering a dealership and i wouldn't hesitate to do it again."
