MAN eTGE Tipper vs Peugeot e-Boxer Tipper

Gone are the days of gas-guzzling petrol engines and clunky cabs; the next generation of commercial vehicles are here. Our increased awareness of climate change and environmental crisis has clarified the need for alternative means of transport and, thankfully, we’re on the right track.

If you were to raise the subject of all-electric vans 20 years ago, it’s likely that you’d be laughed out of the pub! Now, however, things have changed. Technology has come on leaps and bounds, accelerating modern transportation to a point of futuristic spectacle.

Of course, for businesses and contractors, sustainability alone isn’t enough. Working professionals need commercial vehicles that can meet their practical requirements. This is where all-electric tipper vans come in. Combining the fuel efficiency and sustainable performance of an electric vehicle with the physical capabilities of a flatbed tipper, they make an ideal addition to any fleet.

In the following article, we’ll place two great electric tipper vans head to head, comparing battery ranges, motors, comfort and more.

Read on to discover our van vs van review of the MAN eTGE Tipper and the Peugeot e-Boxer Tipper.

Engines and Spec

There is no denying that both MAN and Peugeot are giants of the commercial vehicle world. But how will their electric models compare? In no particular order, let’s take a look below the bonnet of the MAN eTGE Tipper.

As the eTGE Tipper is all-electric, there is no engine. Instead, this nifty van is powered by a 36kWh battery, connected to a 100kWh motor. This capable combination generates a mighty 290Nm of torque and can travel around 75 miles on a single charge.  Although this van isn’t designed for cross-country road trips and long journeys, it is ideal for zipping around the city and can handle a full load with ease. What it lacks in range, the eTGE Tipper makes up for with a payload of 2,515kg.

So, how does the Peugeot e-Boxer Tipper compare? In terms of power, the e-Boxer utilises a 90kW electric motor, powered by either 37kWh or 75kWh battery units. If you’re after some serious instant torque, the 75kWh model is a no-brainer. Regarding range, the e-Boxer Tipper is capable of travelling 154 miles with a fully charged 75kWh battery pack; the smaller 37kWh version can cover 73 miles. There is no denying that the larger battery offers an impressive range, making it an ideal choice for tradespeople and professionals doing a lot of driving throughout their day.

Interior

Of course, a van is only as good as its cab; busy days and site work require comfort and practicality up front too! With a better understanding of each van’s battery and technical specifications, let’s take a look inside.

If you’re looking for an assortment of well-designed storage, the MAN eTGE Tipper is a great choice. Boasting a plethora of handy compartments and lockers throughout its cab the eTGE is ideal for keeping valuables and tools safe.

What’s more, the eTGE Tipper also features a rearview camera, parking sensors, and an emergency brake assist system. These driver assistance features prove particularly useful while negotiating tight environments with the Tipper.

There’s no denying that the MAN eTGE Tipper has a great cab, so how does the Peugeot e-Boxer Tipper compare? While the e-Boxer’s interior may not look as modern as some of its competitors, it is undeniably practical. The e-Boxer has more than enough storage for tools, valuables, documents and more.

Of course, this van still features the tech you’d expect, including a touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity and a sat-nav display.

The Verdict

If you were hoping for an undisputed champion, you may be disappointed. While both the MAN eTGE Tipper and the Peugeot e-Boxer Tipper are winners in their own right, there is no clear victor. Each van boasts a number of admirable features, from tipper capabilities to in-cab tech; which is best for you will depend on personal preference and individual requirements.

You needn’t worry about comfort or practicality with either of these impressive vans. Both vehicles handle city driving with ease and, thanks to their effective tipper functionalities, loading and dropping off materials is no issue.

That said, each excels in its own way. The MAN eTGE Tipper, for example, may prove a better choice for those on the hunt for
