Maxus E Deliver 9 vs Mercedes-Benz eSprinter

Though many associate them more with luxury vehicles and fast cars, Mercedes-Benz have firmly established themselves in the van market, offering various models of both combustion and electric vans in numerous body types. Perhaps a lesser known company, also making themselves more known on the van scene is Maxus. Though they don’t have the same recognition or prestige as Mercedes, they, too, have made the choice to manufacture electric vans in a smart bid to keep up with their better-known competitors.

One such body type that both have come out with in electric transmission is the Luton. The ideal van for removals and deliveries of large goods, how do the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Luton and the Maxus E Deliver 9 Luton compare in practicality, storage and additional features? Read on to find out, as we compare the two.

Engines and Spec

When it comes to electric vans, there are two things in particular that are fundamental to gauge how well they perform – their range and charging times. Looking at the eSprinter, we must admit that we expected more from the manufacturer in regards to this van’s power, as its maximum range is a mediocre 95 miles on a full charge. This is due to the van having a comparatively small battery park to other electric Luton vans, having an output of 55kWh.

The Maxus E Deliver 9, on the other hand, does as its name suggests. It delivers. Not only does it offer the choice for three different sized batteries at 51.5kWh, 72kWh or 88.55kWh, its smallest battery pack can manage a respectable range of 112 miles, with this being said to manage up to 147 miles when used for city driving exclusively. As for the largest battery, this is capable of an impressive 185-219 miles.

With their desire to be market leaders in battery technology, Maxus has used various cooling methods that has allowed for reduced charging times, with a standard AC wall charger charging the battery from empty to full in 6-8 hours (size depending) and a DC charger getting it up to 80% in as little as 40-45 minutes. The eSprinter also takes 8 hours using an AC charger, though (just about) takes even less time than the E Deliver 9 when using a DC charger, achieving 80% in just 30 minutes (when using one with a power output of 80kW).

Interior

If style and comfort is important to you, then either of these vans will go beyond your expectations. With the eSprinter undeniably being one of the most comfortable vans to drive and including numerous safety and comfort features as standard, the E Deliver 9 gives it a run for its money by having a number of its own technological advancements and intuitive facets.

With a modern feel aided by the digital cockpit, sleek design and keyless start system, the Maxus E Deliver 9 also features a clear 10” touchscreen infotainment system, ideal for handsfree calling and music playback, as well being convenient for navigation use when making deliveries throughout the day. It also has an 8-direction adjustable driver’s seat, so if you have different staff using your Luton van on different days, they can each adjust it to be the most comfortable and practical for them.

In addition to this, there are numerous safety features included as standard (including a reverse camera – which many vans only offer as an optional extra), which is a must in all vehicles nowadays, especially so in Luton vans where visibility is often reduced due to their size. More can be read about these in our in-depth Maxus E Deliver 9 Luton review.

As for the eSprinter, comfort is also abundant thanks to the heated driver’s seat and TEMPMATIC air conditioning – which can be controlled remotely before even entering the vehicle. In terms of entertainment, there is a DAB radio with a bluetooth interface, though this is not configured as a large digital display – as you might expect from such an otherwise technologically advanced van.

However, what it lacks in infotainment it makes up for in practicality; not only does it offer excellent visibility, but storage space throughout the cabin is plentiful, with multi-sized cupholders and a generous stowage compartment underneath the cockpit. Ideal for storing hot and cold drinks, paperwork, valuable items and any other extra titbits on long delivery days.

The Verdict

With an excellent range and comparatively fast charging times, the Maxus E Deliver 9 Luton is certainly a capable and sustainable choice to add to a fleet for a removals company. With its safety and comfort features, managing long journeys will be a doddle, while the Luton body offers space to complete a full home or office removal in one journey rather than multiple.

The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Luton on the other hand may be the more optimal for those who have to make deliveries of large goods in urban areas, with its lower range still being more than capable of covering what an average person drives in a day and the stop-start characteristics of urban traffic will help to extend this further through its recuperative abilities. Not to mention, it will save your business money as you will be exempt from congestion charges.

Both these vans are similar in terms of retail price, being upwards of £60,000, however this is a large expense to pay outright. Thankfully, Vanaways has both available on finance. We offer zero deposit, low rate finance for all Maxus and Mercedes-Benz electric vans, including the E Deliver 9 and eSprinter Lutons.

"Staff here are so courteous & helpful, genuine in how they talk rather than that dreaded ‘business speak’. Reception and offices are modern & relaxing to be in, very cool music in background too! Some place just give you the basics - but I found Vanaways completely charming throughout, really appreciated thank you."
