Engines and Spec
Mercedes-Benz vehicles are known for their power. Vito vans operate using a 2.0-litre diesel engine with CDI ignition systems, which offers fantastic engine power while also reducing up to 15% of fuel consumption.
All Vito vans operate using rear-wheel drive, with the 110 and 114 models using 6-speed manual transmission as standard. The 116 and 119 vehicles come with the Mercedes-Benz trademark 9-G TRONIC automatic gearbox which means excellent fuel efficiency and smooth acceleration. They also come with a host of safety features such as Active BRake ASSIST.
You can also choose the engine power of your van, since all Vito Panel and Crew Vans are available in four different engine models with the option for either 110, 114, 116, or 119 CDI. These equate to a horsepower of 102, 136, 163 and 190 respectively. The rear door and sliding side doors allow for easy accessibility when loading and unloading, ideal for those who are required to work at a fast pace and have many jobs to do in a day.
The electric counterpart, the e-Vito, operates using an 85 kw electric motor. This larger than average battery means it has the equivalent of about 115 horsepower and can travel for at least 150 miles on average. It can easily get to motorway speed and charges quickly making it one of the few electric vans that is better for longer distance travel. Additionally, it produces no emissions so has environmental benefits as well as being ideal for low emission areas.
The e-Vito has four different braking modes that you can use if you want to achieve the maximum range of the van. It also has three different driving modes changed by a simple button: Economy, Economy Plus and Comfort and they all moderate the motor power and accelerator response.
The e-Vito comes in two sizes, long (L2) and extra-long (L3), which both have a gross vehicle weight of 3.2 tonnes. This provides a payload of 923kg for the L2 model and 898kg for the L3.
Interior
In true Mercedes style, the interior of the Vito is luxurious and comfortable. The seats are upholstered in the classic Mercedes’ Caluma fabric, which has a leatherette option, giving the overall interior a classy and attractive look.
The featured 7” Audio 30 display screen is connected to a reversing camera, allowing you to safely park and manoeuvre more easily, something that is often harder in larger vehicles such as vans. There is ample storage with a central storage space as well as door storage to allow drivers to keep belongings or important documents within easy reach.
In the Vito Panel there is a double seat on the passenger side, allowing up to three people to travel at one time. The Vito Crew, however, offers an additional three seater bench, allowing a total of six people to be transported.
With the e-Vito you’ll find a similar style of interior, with a few minor changes to incorporate the electric control panel. The touch screen panel has received an upgrade to a 7-inch screen which you can easily connect to your smartphone.
Unlike other vehicles, the key slot is on the left instead of the usual right, and the drive and reverse lever is positioned where most other vans put their windscreen controls. The cab is small but cosy, with a low roof and comfortable seats.
The Verdict/Snap shot
Both of the Mercedes-Benz Vans have safety and practicality at the forefront of their design, without sacrificing comfort or stylish interior. These vans come in a variety of different options and so are a great choice for trade workers, small business owners and more.
The Mercedes-Benz Vito has a powerful, fuel efficient engine that means it’s an excellent choice for jobs that involve longer distances or need quick delivery times.
