Vauxhall Movano Van Review

The Movano at a glance

The Movano has been a staple of the large van scene for over a decade now and until very recently it has remained largely the same. In 2019 the van saw a slight upgrade with a minor facelift to the bodywork and a small engine upgrade. However, the 2022 version has witnessed some vast changes with the Vauxhall now directly competing with the Mercedes Sprinter and VW Crafter. To put it lightly, the Movano is now taking on some big hitters of the large van world.

At first glance, Vauxhall’s upgraded high payload van is a huge success. Its load capacity and variation range mean the van could comfortably act as the workhorse for most tradesmen or removal companies. What’s more, the cab has seen an immeasurable upgrade, making journeys to and from site far more comfortable.

When it comes to price the new van holds up pretty well too. Excluding VAT it starts at just over £27,000 which is pretty commendable considering how capable the vehicle is.

Engines and Spec

As we’ve already hinted, one of the key new features of the Movano is its shiny new engine. The 2.2-litre diesel is now Euro 6d compliant and produces a fair bit of power should you need it. You can also find it in three configurations which put out a healthy 120, 140, and 165PS respectively. This engine isn’t all about straight horsepower though. The 2022 upgrade also sees the van capable of turning over 370 Nm of torque. So, you won’t have any issues towing again.

The upgraded van is now available in four different length options and three different height options. The tallest van is a staggering 2000 mm with floor-to-ceiling doors allowing for unprecedented cargo access.

Vauxhall has also released the Movano in a variety of different configurations and set-ups. The 2022 model is now purchasable as a standard panel van, a glazed panel van, a chassis cab, or a crew cab.

Interior

The interior really does sell this van. Especially to those tradesmen who spend a few hours getting between jobs each day. The cab is extremely comfortable with adjustable seats, armrests, and air conditioning. What’s more, the van also features plenty of storage, with cupboards and compartments throughout the cab space. You can even have your Movano come with two lockable compartments. So, wherever you park up, you’ll be sure that your valuables are safe.

While you’re driving to work, you can listen to your favourite music from your phone, using the bluetooth radio and the integrated Sat Nav will ensure you’re never late to a job.

Driving behind the wheel of the Movano would likely be a great experience as the driving position is high with great visibility and you’ll also have the benefit of rear-view reversing cameras. However, the vans payload (2,110 kg) although good, hardly touches some of its competitors and therefore if its pure weight capacity you’re after you may choose to look elsewhere.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • High payload
  • Plenty of configuration options
  • Reliable engines

Cons

  • More powerful vans available
  • Limited technology
  • Driveability

The Verdict

The new Movano is a real success. The van rises far and beyond its predecessor and pushes Vauxhall van’s right back into the 21st century. There’s no doubt really that if your line of work requires a multitude of lifting and transporting, then the Movano would be the perfect van for you. Not only is it large and capable of carrying vast weights, but it’s also incredibly easy to drive and handle. All this makes it a perfect choice for the tradesman out there.

As an affordable alternative to some of the other large capacity vans on the market there’s really nothing better. The Movano is a trustworthy and solid alternative to some of the more established large van names, such as the Sprinter or Transit.

If the Movano sounds like something that you’d be interested in don’t hesitate to get in touch with our lovely staff. They would absolutely love to talk you through all the many options we have available here at Vanaways.

"Paige was outstanding in her responsiveness to what presented as a serious problem for our company. The finance company used by her company caused unnecessary and significant delays in the delivery of our van - the pain of which was mitigated somewhat by Paige's proactive communication, informative and realistic communication and very professional demeanour. I'd recommend her and she meant our view of Vanaways was overall positive."
