Citroen E-Relay Luton vs Renault Master Z.E. Luton

Electric cars and vehicles are now not just the future, they are the present. In the last decade, electric technology has continued to progress and we now stand at a point where vehicles powered by electric motors are more than capable. Though, this has caused a new issue for motorists. The amount of choice on the market can be a touch overwhelming at times and knowing what van is right for you can be nigh on impossible. So, you will need to consider a wide range of options before you settle on your next van. This will mean looking at standard petrol and diesel-powered vehicles as well as hybrids and, of course, fully electric models.

There is no question, though, that electric vehicles are now extremely efficient and well-made vehicles. In fact, out of all of the new car registrations in February this year (2023) 12,310 of them were electric vehicles which made up a staggering 16.5% of the market share. This figure is the same across most registration months and has been steadily rising for the past five years. With the new infrastructure around electric charging points in the UK, there’s no guessing why, really, and the chances are this will only continue to improve.

The question is, though, which electric van is the best? Of course, this issue is becoming more and more challenging as the years move on and more household names enter the electric market. There are two names which have been in the electric game for about as long as anyone else, and they are the giants of the French automobile industry. Citroen and Renault have been fighting for control of the French vehicle market for well over 50 years and their battle has continued into the electric era. So, which is better for you? The Citroen E-Relay Luton or the Renault Master Z.E. Luton?

Engines and Spec

So, let’s talk about the most exciting thing about both of these vans. The electric motor. Of course, there are many other new additions in both of these models that will likely capture your attention, though there is no doubt that electric motors are the main source of intrigue for the average motorist.

The fact is that electric motors are quite simply perfect for the modern van, but why? Well, in short, this all comes down to torque. In simple terms, this is the force that will allow your vehicle to pull away and carry large, heavy loads. With electric motors, this force is directed to the wheels almost instantly, which is incredibly helpful for large payload vehicles.

When it comes to power, there is one clear winner between the two vans. The Citroen features a fairly competitive 90kW motor which produces a commendable 122hp and 260 Nm of torque. It is fair to say that when it comes to the Renault, this new electric van is slightly underpowered in comparison. The van comes with a 57kW motor that produces 77hp and 225 Nm of torque.

However, despite the shortfalls of the Renault’s power, it comfortably beats the Citroën with its range statistics. The Renault’s range is just under 125 miles, which for a large payload is extremely commendable. In comparison, the powerful Citroen can only manage 73 miles on a single charge.

Interior

As you might well expect from two modern vans, their interiors really are extremely well thought through. They have plenty of secure storage and feature many small lockers for other day-to-day items. What’s more, the driving position in both of the vans is extremely well thought out and their blind spots are extremely small. Certainly driving both the Renault and the Citroen is a comfortable and stress-free experience. You may find a few more modern features in the cab of the Renault, but in reality, the two vans are extremely similar when it comes to their interiors.

The Verdict

When it comes to economical driving, both of these vans really are brilliant. Of course, thanks to electric motors you won’t have to worry about road tax, low emission zones, or congestion charges. Naturally, this is a huge selling point for both of the vans and the reduced cost to power the vans compared with their diesel cousins is, of course, another huge bonus.

Which of these vans is right for you, though? Well, in short, this will come down to what you consider more important. Is it power or range? If it’s the former, then you will probably want to go for the Citroen, though if it’s the latter, then the Renault is for you. One thing is for sure, we can certainly help you with whatever van you choose. So, whether it’s the Citroen E-Relay Luton or the Renault Master Z.E. Luton, contact us today!

"Paige was outstanding in her responsiveness to what presented as a serious problem for our company. The finance company used by her company caused unnecessary and significant delays in the delivery of our van - the pain of which was mitigated somewhat by Paige's proactive communication, informative and realistic communication and very professional demeanour. I'd recommend her and she meant our view of Vanaways was overall positive."
