The Luton van is an iconic piece of machinery, dating back to the early 1930s when a British vehicle manufacturer released a van that can be recognised nowadays as a Luton van. They were known for their box-shaped body, with a loading compartment that stretched over the cab of the vehicle. The name came from the region where the vehicle was first manufactured, with the plant being located in Luton.

Engines and Spec
A 2020 update to the Ford Transit brought a plethora of changes, including updated engines. Traditionally four Duratorq diesel engines were in the vehicle, but this has now been replaced by a single EcoBlue inline-4 turbo diesel engine. These new engines are designed to meet Euro 6 emissions standards, as well as reduce friction and deliver a cleaner burn. Overall these new EcoBlue engines were designed to be more fuel efficient, powerful and cleaner. However, if you’re looking for a truly clean experience, look no further than the E-Transit Luton. It has a fully electric engine with a 68kWH battery that enables you to go nearly 200 miles on a full charge. This engine produces absolutely zero tailgate emissions while driving, and can quickly charge to get you back on the road in no time at all. It also has the benefit of regenerating energy each time you brake, allowing your drive to be as efficient as possible.
Interior
The Ford Transit uses a unibody chassis design instead of a separate frame, which has the benefit of increasing the payload capacity of up to 600 pounds! The Luton overhang is accessible from the back of the van and can be used to store smaller goods, with the main body great for larger loads. It has plenty of straps and attaching points, so your payload and goods will be safe and sound during journeys. The E-Transit Luton has an innovative four-tier load restraint system which has aluminium lashing racks and soft rubber inserts to ensure your cargo is safe.
In the front seat, there is an updated dashboard and appearance, giving it a modern feel. It’s perfect for a small work crew, with space for three if needed. The E-Transit has a similar appearance in the cab to the regular transit, with slightly different controls to reflect the electric driving. A power use indicator appears in place of a rev counter, allowing you to easily keep track of your usage.

The Verdict
Overall both the Transit and e-Transit Luton are great vehicles for a business that is looking to transport plenty of cargo with ease and safety in mind. For quick trips around an urban environment, we’d probably go with the e-Transit Luton, which will regenerate energy when you break, something that comes in handy in urban environments. If you’re going a bit more long-distance, the Transit will be great for going the extra mile in a fuel-efficient manner.
