Top Tips For Keeping The Frost And Chill At Bay

There’s nothing worse than waking up to a frozen vehicle windscreen, especially before a busy day at work. When mother nature calls upon chilly temperatures or a wave of unpredictably extreme weather, vehicles can be badly affected. Your van certainly won’t be resistant to these conditions, and as a result, stocking up on the correct accessories, preventative measures and smart gadgets should prove beneficial.

Continue reading and let Van Sales UK take you through some of the most effective tips for keeping the frost and chill at bay this Winter.

Mats, Covers And Sprays

Mats, covers and sprays are all available to purchase in advance if the colder evenings are approaching, and you aren’t keen on getting up earlier to defrost or clean excess from your van’s windows. Though affordable and easy to acquire, these cost-conscious  solutions aren’t 100% effective, therefore you may want to look at other more permanent fixes if this is a recurring issue. The traditional procedure of scraping accumulated frost is likely to eat into time, so be careful!

Air Conditioning Fan Systems

Letting an air conditioning or heated fan unit circulate around your vehicle can often sufficiently condition it to defrost some amount of frozen excess, though of course this is not a 100% foolproof option either. Depending on the severity of an issue, you may want to organise this well in-advance of setting off, as the problem is unlikely to be averted immediately.

Account for the larger interior space within a van – this will likely take longer to heat. Many newer vans also include advanced integrated systems to assist with the clearance of frost and mess, so browse the Van Sales online catalogue for additional insight.

Steer Clear Of Unhelpful Advice

Plenty of unhelpful advice persists on the internet and in print, and it can often be difficult to separate the fact from the fiction. Below are just an assortment of tips to actively avoid,  some of which you may have wrongfully assumed were beneficial when defrosting a large or small van.

  • NEVER use hot or boiling water to de-ice your car windscreen or windows – this can often cause more harm than good.
  • Sandpaper and newspaper sheets should NEVER be used to conceal a windscreen overnight and prevent frost accumulation. This is nowhere near as effective as you would perhaps think.
  • You should NEVER leave your engine running while your van is stationary in an attempt to defrost surfaces. Stationary idling is an offence under section 42 of the Road Traffic Act, meaning that leaving the car running is a no-no.
