Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper vs Volkswagen E-Crafter Tipper

As those working in manual trades will know, the term ‘practical’ is thrown around an awful lot. From workwear to tool hire, practicality is used left right and centre. Here at Vanaways, however, we take practicality very seriously. When we say a van is practical, we really mean it!

If you’ve been searching for an electric van that is both practical and comfortable, names such as the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper and Volkswagen E-Crafter Tipper are likely to have cropped up.

Where to start with these great vans? Both the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper and the Volkswagen E-Crafter Tipper are certain to give tradespeople, landscapers, and removal specialists some real bang for their buck. Each boasts a range of practical features including sizable payloads, easy tipper functionality and, of course, the smooth feel of an electric motor. What’s more, both the Movano-e Tipper and the E-Crafter Tipper provide drivers and passengers with an impressively comfortable driving experience.

If you’re struggling to decide between these great vehicles, we don’t blame you. But, fear not; here at Vanaways, we’re here to make your life easier. Read on to discover our van vs van comparison of the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper and Volkswagen E-Crafter Tipper.

Engines and Spec

Starting below the bonnets, let’s take a look at the driving force behind the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper. Vauchall’s all-electric Movano-e is powered by a 90kWh motor, capable of producing a respectable 122hp and 260Nm of torque. What’s more, the Movano-e Tipper is available with a choice of either a 37kWh or 70kWh battery, with ranges of 72 miles and 139 miles. Both of these provide more than enough power for zippy urban driving and lugging loads back and forth. Of course, if a longer range is what you’re after, the 70kWh battery is a sure choice.

Regarding charge times, the Movano-e is capable of reaching 80% battery within an hour using a 50kW rapid charger. Using a standard 7kW wall box, however, the van will take between 6 and 12 hours to reach capacity.

Let’s talk payload! With a maximum payload capacity of 2,100kg, the Movano-e is more than capable of handling some serious cargo. Whether you’re tipping rubble away from a site or moving heavy goods across town, this van is up to the job.

So, how does the Volkswagen E-Crafter Tipper compare?

Volkswagen’s E-Crafter is powered by a 35kW battery, located beneath the floor to lower the centre of gravity. This equates to a smooth stable drive and a range of around 107 miles. The motor itself pushes 134bhp of power, plenty for those looking to lug a heavy load or two around town and nip in and out of urban traffic. Regarding charge times, the E-Crafter’s battery can be brought up to 80% in around 45 minutes but will take longer using a standard wall-mounted power pack.

When it comes to drivability, the E-Crafter is quiet and comfortable, with smooth acceleration and an impressive amount of instant torque, ideal for city driving and navigating urban roads. What’s more, safety functions include post-collision braking and crosswind assist. There’s no denying you’re in good hands with the E-Crafter.

Looking at the motors, batteries and driving quality of each of these vans only solidifies their reputations for quality. Sure, the Movano-e Tipper comes out on top regarding range, but the E-Crafter has just a tad more torque.

Interior

Let’s jump inside the cabs of the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper and the Volkswagen E-Crafter Tipper. Each of which boasts a functional design, ergonomic layout and user-friendly interface

Stepping into the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper, we were impressed by this van’s spacious layout and range of handy technical additions. With plenty of storage, as well as access to the MyVauxhall app, it’s certainly a practical space. On top of this, drivers will be pleased to discover the VauxhallConnect interface, which provides access to current charge status among many other features.

The Volkswagen E-Crafter is equally spacious with a great deal of storage space for all the little bits you’ll need on the road. Moreover, the central seat features a fold-down tray which can double up as storage as and when required.

In terms of comfort, the E-Crafter’s interior is well-designed and luxurious. On warmer days, the automatic air-conditioning is a welcome addition. For cool winter drives, the heated seats and windscreen are sure to come in handy too. On top of this, the E-Crafter features a full infotainment system, complete with Satellite Navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and radio.

The Verdict

There you have it, a whistle-stop tour of two brilliant electric vans, both with tipper functionality. Both the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper and Volkswagen E-Crafter Tipper present a huge number of attractive features, including instant torque, comfortable cabs and modern technology. That said, choosing between the two is no small decision; it largely depends on individual requirements and personal preference.

Those looking for a little extra range might be swayed by the Movano-e Tipper as its 139-mile capabilities are nothing to sniff at. However, those hoping for the latest and greatest in comfort and technology might just prefer the Volkswagen E-Crafter Tipper, with its heated seats and user-friendly interfaces.
