Renault Master Dropside vs Renault Master Z.E. Electric Dropside

Renault, renowned for its hi-tech yet affordable vehicles, has decided to add the all-electric alternative of the Renault Master Dropside to the best-selling Renault Master range, giving road users the opportunity to benefit from zero emissions and lower running costs.

Widely recognised as practical, spacious and comfortable, the Renault Master Dropside has been a popular contender for many businesses since its release in 2020. Featuring a high-performance 2.3-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, a high payload and a comfortable cabin, the Renault Master Dropside is bursting with benefits, making it a van worth considering.

On the other hand, the low running costs and zero emissions of the Renault Master Z.E Dropside make it an attractive choice for businesses looking to improve their carbon footprint.

While like most electric vehicles, the Renault Master Z.E is slightly more expensive to buy outright than its diesel counterpart, both vans are available to buy on finance at Vanaways for a much more affordable price.

So, if you are struggling to decide which of these two vehicles would make the right fit for you or your business, then keep on reading for our in-depth comparison of the engines, specs, interior and pros and cons of these two impressive vehicles.

Engines and Spec

The most obvious difference between these two dropside vehicles is, of course, the engine.

The Renault Master Dropside offers versatility in spades with a choice of four unique load lengths, (Medium (ML, MLL), Long (LL) and Extra Long (LLL) wheelbases are available), a variety of engines, (dCi 130, dCi 135, Energy dCi 145 & Energy dCi 150), and with the latest addition available in both Front-Wheel Drive and Rear-Wheel Drive.

Featuring a high-Performance 2.3 litre Diesel Engine and a maximum payload of up to 1,401kg, the Renault Master Dropside is capable of handling mid-sized loads with relative ease.

On the other hand, the Renault Master Z.E. Dropside boasts a fully electric engine, making it the ideal choice for any of the increasingly common clean air zones within cities.

The Z.E. Dropside offers an impressive payload of up to 1,490kg, which is slightly more than its diesel counterpart.

As mentioned in our Renault Master Z.E Dropside review, the load area dimensions of the diesel edition are unaffected by going electric, since the compact batteries are handily stashed below the load floor – therefore the load length remains at 3,083mm, and the maximum load width measures up at 1,765mm

Interior

The interior of the diesel and electric variations are very similar with both offering a practical and spacious cabin and a number of intelligent features.

Both cabins have spacious interiors with plenty of storage solutions including drinks holders, a storage area under the passenger bench seat and a 7.6-litre glovebox and door compartments able to handle a 1.5-litre bottle of liquid.

While the interiors of both variations are not necessarily stylish, they are practical and hard-wearing, giving them an edge over competitors.

As mentioned in our Renault Master Dropside review, both vehicles are fitted with a DAB radio with USB and Bluetooth connectivity as standard, the Renault Master Dropside and Master Z.E. also feature an infotainment display, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Verdict/Snap shot

While both the Renault Master Dropside and Renault Master Z.E Dropside are packed with features and benefits, the best vehicle for you will ultimately come down to your individual needs and preferences.

If you are looking for a sustainable, environmentally-friendly dropside that will lower your running costs and produce zero emissions, then the Renault Z.E Dropside could be the van for you. However, if you prefer a more robust, reliable and affordable alternative, then the diesel-powered Renault Master Dropside is a sure choice.

Both vehicles are equipped to store all of your equipment and belongings with a wide range of storage solutions including drinks holders, a storage area under the passenger bench seat and a 7.6-litre glovebox and door compartments able to handle a 1.5-litre bottle of liquid.

While like most electric vehicles, the Renault Master Z.E is slightly more expensive to buy outright than its diesel counterpart, both vans are available to buy on finance at Vanaways for a much more affordable price.

"First class service, I must mention Adrian & Ash on an excellent deal & swift turn around under the short notice I had to buying a new van. Slight delay in the delivery of the van from manufacturers end but Adrian agreed to cover the cost of a hire van until my new van was delivered which allowed me to continue working. its the first time i've purchased a van without physically entering a dealership and i wouldn't hesitate to do it again."
