Fiat e-Ducato Dropside vs Peugeot e-Boxer Dropside

‘Help!’, we hear you shout. ‘I’m on the hunt for a work van that is practical, cost-effective, looks great and is comfortable to drive! Is this too much to ask? Am I getting my hopes up? Of course not! Slow down, and take it easy, Van Sales UK are here to help.

As a working professional, your vehicle is like a member of the team. Whether you’re in construction, landscaping, removals or any other trade, you need to know that the van you drive is up to the task. That said, there will always come a time when an upgrade is required; choosing a new van may seem like an overwhelming process, but it’s a chance to put your needs first and invest in high-quality transportation.

If practicality, comfort and low running costs are top priorities, an all-electric dropside van may just be your best option! This way, you’ll have the practicality of a flatbed loading area, combined with the sustainability and smooth driving experience of an electric motor.

In the following review, we’ll be placing two brilliant dropside vans head to head. Read on to discover our thoughts on the Fiat e-Ducato Dropside and the Peugeot e-Boxer Dropside.

Engines and Spec

The first thing to note is that both of these vans are, of course, electric! With huge advancements in the engineering of all-electric vehicles, these sturdy vans pack a real punch. So, let’s take a look below the bonnets.

Powering the Fiat e-Ducato Dropside is a 121bhp motor, providing some impressive instant torque and enough drive to handle full loads with ease. This van is undeniably well-designed, utilising a low centre of gravity for stability and smooth drivability. What’s more, the Fiat e-Ducato Dropside’s alternate driving modes give individuals a choice between Normal, Power and Eco. As their names suggest, these driving modes are designed to handle everyday trips, take care of heavy payloads and give a little extra driving range.

So, how does the Peugeot e-Boxer Dropside compare? In terms of power output, the e-Boxer is kitted out with a 75kWh battery capable of delivering an impressive 154-mile range on a single charge. This makes it ideal for city driving and slightly longer journeys too. This combination of power and range means that trips back and forth for the site as well as lengthy stints on motorways are no problem at all.

The e-Boxer’s battery will take around 10-12 hours to reach capacity from a standard home charge point but can be brought up to around 80% in less than an hour using a 50kW fast charge point.

Interior

With a better understanding of the motors, ranges and driving experience of these vans, let’s hop inside the cab and check out their interiors.

Kicking things off with the Fiat e-Ducato Dropside, both driver and passengers are in for a pleasant journey. With a spacious design, well-considered storage and a plethora of modern tech, this van lives up to its reputation for excellence. Battery and electric charge information is located on a screen to the right of the steering column, with a main infotainment system taking centre stage. This, of course, features smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth and satellite navigation.

Regarding safety features, the e-Ducato Dropside does not disappoint. Rear cross-path detection will stop you from reversing into a vehicle or cyclist crossing behind you, full brake control will reduce the likelihood of rear collisions and blindspot assist keeps an eye out for vehicles you can’t see.

Much like the Fiat e-Ducato, the Peugeot e-Boxer offers an abundance of storage space, technology and comfort. Three buttons have been used for easier control of the transmission, which can quickly move your van between drive, neutral and reverse. Whilst its somewhat unorthodox control buttons may take a minute to get used to, the overall driving experience is smooth, comfortable and enjoyable.

In terms of tech, the e-Boxer has all the features you’d expect, with a touchscreen infotainment system, navigation and smartphone connectivity.

The Verdict

There’s no denying that both Fiat and Peugeot have produced incredibly reliable electric vans. With dropside chassis, punchy motors and a range of comfort features either would make a welcome addition to your business. That said, personal preference plays a huge part in choosing a van that is right for you.

Those on the hunt for added range would certainly be better suited to the Peugeot e-Boxer Dropside, with 154 miles on one charge! That said, if versatility is your priority, the Fiat e-Ducato Dropside may be a better choice, with multiple driving modes and payload capabilities.

Still unsure which is for you? No problem! Get in touch with us to discuss your requirements and we’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.

"Paige was outstanding in her responsiveness to what presented as a serious problem for our company. The finance company used by her company caused unnecessary and significant delays in the delivery of our van - the pain of which was mitigated somewhat by Paige's proactive communication, informative and realistic communication and very professional demeanour. I'd recommend her and she meant our view of Vanaways was overall positive."
