Maxus E Deliver 9 Dropside vs Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Dropside

It’s no secret, businesses and tradespeople across the world have begun to embrace the benefits of all-electric commercial vehicles. If you’re considering a sustainable upgrade, you might be wondering which of our many vans will suit your requirements.

When it comes to practicality, comfort, reliability and power, Mercedes-Benz and Maxus are both strong competitors. In the following review, we’ll put their all-electric dropside models head to head, comparing batteries, technical specifications and more.

Read on to discover our van vs van comparison of the Maxus E Deliver 9 Dropside and the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Dropside.

Engines and Spec

Let’s jump right in and take a look at the specifications of these mighty vans. What better place to start than the battery?

The Maxus E-Deliver 9 Dropside is powered by a 150kW (201hp) motor, with the option of three battery sizes to power the vehicle. This provides 310 Nm of instant torque, ideal for quick bursts of speed, urban manoeuvres and zippy city driving. When it comes to range, this van excels. Even the smallest battery offers 112 miles on a single charge. Of course, those looking to cover significant distances should go for the 88.55kw battery; this offers an incredible 185 miles! What’s more, the E Deliver’s low battery placement and solid build provide a smooth ride, with or without cargo. Charging time for the Maxus E Deliver varies depending on the battery but will typically take around 6-8 hours to reach full charge at home.

In terms of payload, the Maxus E Deliver 9 offers a 1020 kg capacity when fitted with the lighter 52kWh battery; if you opt for the 89kWh model, this figure falls to 860kg. These stats are certainly nothing to sniff at and, for an all-electric van, offer drivers choice and practicality. As the name suggests, the E Deliver 9 Dropside is ideal for stop-start routes, city driving and loading/unloading bulky goods and cargo.

It’s undeniable, the Maxus E Deliver 9 Dropside is a force to be reckoned with. That said, the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Dropside certainly gives it a run for its money.

When it comes to battery size and power, the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Dropside is fitted with a 55kWh battery and offers a 96-mile range on a full charge. This is significantly less than the Maxus’s 185 miles potential. As is the case with most large electric vehicles, the surge of power doesn’t quite match that of smaller models, but that doesn’t detract from the eSprinter Dropside packing a little punch when it comes to torque. Handling is smooth and comfortable in built-up urban environments and open roads alike.

Regarding storage space and loading, the eSprinter is definitely up there with the Maxus E Deliver 9, offering a large flatbed area with dropside access. Unfortunately, however, the eSprinter doesn’t quite match up to the Maxus E Deliver 9 in terms of payload. With a maximum load capacity of 774kg, it falls behind a number of competitors.

Interior

So, how do these vans compare in terms of comfort, driving experience and cab design?

Stepping inside the Maxus E Deliver 9’s cabin, individuals are greeted by a sleek interior packed with modern features and tech. Though it may not have the ‘swanky’ feel of other vans, Maxus are known for their emphasis on functionality. With electric heated mirrors, cruise control, air conditioning, an 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, automatic headlights, tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and reversing camera, it’s safe to say that drivers and passengers are in safe, comfortable and capable hands.

Of course, this all-electric van also boasts a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that dominates the dashboard.

Moving over to the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Dropside, there’s no denying that this cab is well-designed and spacious, with adjustable seats, ample storage, great accessibility and a neatly designed dashboard that doesn’t intrude on legroom. What’s more, Mercedes have included DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity as standard, so you’re all set for in-cab entertainment.

Mercedes are known for their swish interiors and ergonomic design; the eSprinter certainly lives up to that. If you’re after comfort and aesthetic appeal, this is a great choice.

The Verdict

Those on the hunt for a seriously capable all-electric dropside van can rest assured, they do exist! When it comes to deciding between the two, however, it is largely dependent on personal requirements.

There is no doubt that the Maxus E Deliver 9 shines in terms of range and payload, but when it comes to interior comfort, Mercedes-Benz’s eSprinter may just come out on top. Both vans are perfect for navigating urban environments, stop-start driving and easy dropside access.

"First class service, I must mention Adrian & Ash on an excellent deal & swift turn around under the short notice I had to buying a new van. Slight delay in the delivery of the van from manufacturers end but Adrian agreed to cover the cost of a hire van until my new van was delivered which allowed me to continue working. its the first time i've purchased a van without physically entering a dealership and i wouldn't hesitate to do it again."
